Undergraduate programmes

In light of the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, the University has seriously considered the situation and come to the conclusion that it is unlikely to resume face-to-face classes for undergraduate programmes before end of April.  Therefore, it has been decided that real-time online teaching and learning shall continue for the remainder of Term 2 of 2019-20, and that no proctored on-campus examinations will be held.  Students will be informed of the special assessment arrangements by their course teachers.

Some students have expressed to the University their concerns that real-time online learning may not be as effective as face-to-face learning. To cater for students’ diverse learning needs, the University undertakes to offer free academic and non-academic enrichment activities in the summer of 2020 to undergraduate students. These include the Summer Institute 2020, which will be conducted face-to-face if health conditions permit.

The University also understands that some students may have genuine difficulties in taking part in real-time online activities for various reasons.   Therefore, students will also be allowed to opt for the Pass/Fail grading to replace Letter Grading for the subjects they have taken.  However, they are strongly urged to consult their academic advisers first and take into account the possible negative impact on their future studies and careers before pursuing the “Pass/Fail” option.

Detailed arrangements for examinations and assessments, grading, late drop and suspension, as well as the Summer Institute will soon be announced by the Registry.

Taught postgraduate programmes

In addition to real-time online teaching and learning, some programmes will offer additional student learning enhancement activities. Details will be announced by individual programmes.

Arrangements for examinations and assessments will also be announced later by individual programmes.

Research postgraduate programmes

Students are advised to discuss practical arrangements with their supervisors.

Sub-degree programmes

Face-to-face classes will be suspended while real-time online teaching and learning will continue for the remainder of Term 2 of 2019-20.

Detailed arrangements for examinations and assessments, grading, late drop and suspension will soon be announced by LIFE.

The University continues to monitor and assess the situation closely and will provide updates as and when necessary.
