Update on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Preventive Measures (10 Jul 2020) (只有英文版)

10.07.2020  20:57

The epidemic situation of COVID-19 in Hong Kong has undergone drastic changes recently. The detection of quite a number of local cases with unknown sources of infection over a short period of time raises an important alarm, reminding the community that members of the public must not let down their guard in terms of epidemic prevention and control. In view of the latest public health risk assessment, in particular the higher risks brought about by activities conducted without wearing masks as shown in recent cases, it is now necessary to tighten social distancing measures, including the limits on number of persons and capacity, as well as other infection control requirements on catering business and some scheduled premises. At the same time, the global situation remains severe. In view of the recent development, colleagues and students have to note the following strategies and measures of the Government:

1.              Social Distancing Measures

·                The Government has gazetted the amendments, directions and extension of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) (Cap. 599F) which will come into effect during 11-24 July 2020. For details, please refer to the attached Annex.

·                The Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Regulation (Cap.599G) which took effect on 3 July remains in effect till 16 July. The number of persons allowed in group gatherings in public places will be maintained at 50.

For details of the regulation and the latest direction, please visit the press release of HKSAR at:  https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/202007/09/P2020070900723.htm?fontSize=2

2.          Early Testing and Detection

As some people infected with COVID-19 only have mild symptoms, colleagues and students are advised to seek medical advice promptly when feeling unwell (even if having very mild symptoms only), so that appropriate diagnosis and management can be given at the earliest possible time.

Apart from the accident and emergency departments of public hospitals and general out-patient clinics (GOPCs), you may also visit private clinics and hospitals. You can proactively make a request to your doctor for testing when there is any suspicion. The Department of Health (DH) provides free testing of COVID-19 for private doctors.

You may return the specimen by yourself or family members/relatives/friends to one of the designated collection clinics of the DH or the Hospital Authority on the same day of specimen collection. Please refer to the following webpage for the list of collection clinics:      https://www.chp.gov.hk/files/pdf/list_of_collection_points_en.pdf

The Committee strongly advises all stakeholders to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, wear masks, reduce the frequency of visiting and time staying at common facilities, maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in daily lives and avoid meal gatherings or any other activities which cannot wear a mask. All stakeholders should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

In order to minimize the risk of community transmission, the Committee strongly advises all stakeholders that if they have to undergo compulsory quarantine, please stay at home or place of residency for 14 days before coming back to the campus.

Students and colleagues should not come to the campus if their home-mates are undergoing self-quarantine. The same measure has been implemented for our outsourced contractors and guests.
